The 22 ppm Lexmark X422 MFP was introduced in January 2004 at an OEM price of $1,749 and is basically an enhanced T420 printer with a scanner and fax modem added. X422 cartridges are physically identical to those used by the T420, but utilize a T430 toner load.
The printer ships with a 6k Return Program cartridge (12A4710) that is chipped. OEM replacement toner cartridges are also chipped and are available in 6k and 12k Return Program and Non-Return versions. Toner level sensing is accomplished by the encoder wheel working in combination with the chip, and the X422MFP will not print with a chip missing from the cartridge or with a spent chip.
